QR Codes Don't Have To Be REALLY Ugly

QR codes. You see them everywhere. And yet you'd rather not. This Mashable article by Hamilton Chan outlines ways that companies are utilizing creative QR design to stay in race and stand out. Chan says that QR codes are "malleable and can be redesigned in truly extraordinary ways, while still maintaining their scanability." It's nice that the checkerbox visual is no longer needed and I think it will be an inventive and promising way to implement mobile platforms in the marketing sphere.

This is interesting because I just noticed a QR code on a Tulane Basketball poster that wasn't really ugly and was pretty surprised!

I like this a lot. I was surprised as well. This could be a really good marketing point. A company could put the same smaller image in all of their QR codes as a trade mark. Its a creative way to make people more aware of their QR codes. I would definitely be more likely to scan a creative one then a normal black and white one. Plus, I'd be fun to see all of the different ones in a magazine or something. Or better yet, seeing one of these on a poster outside of a venue or event. I'm excited to see if any of the QR codes change in the future.

I forgot to mention this in class. One drawback though is that even fewer people might know what to do with one of these QR codes.
