Shaq’s Retirement Drives 500k Viewers to Tout in 3 Hours

Shaquille O’Neal made huge waves in the social media world today by officially announcing his retirement online. And while many have suggested that O’Neal’s announcement was a testament to the power of Twitter, it was actually six-week old social video startup Tout that hosted the video in which Shaq told the world he wasn’t returning to basketball.

I thought this was interesting. I learned of TOUT about 3 weeks ago in an email from a family member looking to expand their social media marketing campaign for real estate.

TOUT allows you to post a 15 second video, kind of like a live, in person status update. Any thoughts?

This is the first I've heard of TOUT. Since Shaq announced his retirement on it in June, it seems to me that "Shaq's Twitter magic" has not yet carried over to Tout. But, who knows, it could be as popular as twitter in a couple of years!

I haven't heard much about Tout either (I didn't even remember that Shaq's announcement was there). That said, the idea of video 'tweets' is kind of interesting. Maybe they will get enough people to get bought out by Twitter.

Can't say I've heard of Tout. I could definitely see video tweets becoming popular, especially among celebrities and news sources.

It seems like it could be more useful for businesses rather than for individual use. It could be great for restaurants, bars, clubs etc, for showing the current "scene" and maybe offering deals.

My mom is trying to figure out ways that she can use it for real estate with open houses-possibly a quick video tour?
